KNOCKOUTS
MAINTAIN THEIR UNDEFEATED START TO THE 2007/2008 SEASON
|
|
|
The Elmsdale Dental
Knockouts kept their undefeated start to the 2007/2008 in tact
tonight. Mind you there were some tense moments late in the
game but they held off the hard pressing Mark Currie Painting No
Stars long enough to earn a 5-4 victory.
The No Stars took a
1-0 lead late in the opening period on a power play opportunity.
Then they expanded that to 2-0 thirty-one seconds into the final
period. Then it was 3-0 for the No Stars before the Knockouts
finally found the mesh at 6:15. Then what looked like trouble
for the Knockouts, a penalty, proved to be the opposite. They
(Knockouts) scored a pair of short handed goals to tie the game at
3-3. This propelled the Knockouts and at 15:40 they took the
lead for the first time in the game. The No Stars replied
quickly to tie the game at 4-4. But Travis Hunter found the
mark at 20:56 to lift the Knockouts into a 5-4 lead, which became
the final score of the game.
Jason Scothorn had a
pair of goals to pace the Knockouts. Sheldon MacIntosh and
John Young had singles to complete their scoring. Paul Smith
led the No Stars with a pair of goals while Eric Lieng and Tony
Singer added singles. Paul Scothorn turned aside eighteen
shots to earn the win while Vern Howlett kicked out seventeen shots
to take the loss.
In the Bitar's Pizza
& Grill Bruins and Tremco game it was a two minute period of time
that changed the outcome of the game. The Bruins struck almost
as the game got start, at 0:44. The balance of the first
period saw both the Bruins and Tremco try for a goal but none were
coming. The Bruins extended their lead to 2-0 early in the
second period. Then a minor disaster struck the Bruins.
Between 3:29 and 5:43 Tremco fired three unanswered goals to take
the lead (3-2) in the game. They never looked back from this
point. This quick jump into the lead seemed to energize
Tremco. They went on to score two more goals before the Bruins
could reply. The Bruins battled back to within one (5-4)
before the nail was hammered in their coffin by Tremco. The
final whistle sounded and Tremco put a 7-4 victory into the record
books.
Tony Husk led
Tremco with a pair of goals. Steve Ramsay, Mark Maguire, Steve
Hogan, Terry Pettipas and Darren Smith added singles. Dion
Dooley had a pair to pace the Bruins while Guy Fortin and Craig
Burnett added singles. Roy McNeill earned the win stopping
twelve shots while Neil McCorkill took the loss turning aside
twenty-three shots.
The decision for the
final game of the night came down to the last one minute and seven
seconds. Just past the midway point of the first period, the
Davies Plumbing Millionaires struck to take a 1-0 lead over the
Caldwell Roach Insurance Kings. Late in the period they
extended that to 2-0. But in the dying seconds of the period,
the Kings replied with a power play goal to trail the Millionaires
2-1 at the end of the period.
The second period
saw the Kings battle hard and it took fifteen minutes before they
could get that game tying goal. Then a penalty late in the
game by the Millionaires gave the Kings a gigantic opportunity to
pull ahead. The Kings made no mistake as they scored on this
opportunity with just over a minute left to play. Then with
twenty-nine second remaining in the game, the Kings connected again
